Introductions are in order!

Many times, those interested in learning an instrument are unsure where to start looking for a teacher. Often times, students know little about their teachers. To counter this, I've decided to include information on the website above and beyond that related specifically to music.

Included here is information about my 15 years in lincoln, my job, my family, references, hobbies, you name it. It is challenging to learn an instrument on its own. It's even more challenging to learn to play with others. Not only does it take time and skill; it takes familiarity and friendship.

Consider this a handshake. I hope you enjoy.

Qualifications
I started playing the guitar right around the age of 10. I can't be sure when I first picked it up, because I honestly can't remember. Well, I'm 28, so that gives me somwhere around 15 years of experience or so.

I played in bands throughout high-school and college. A few of the recordings we made are available for your review right here on the website. I was lucky enough to learn to play guitar with some realy talented musicians. We played live in front of crowds, large and small. And I got to spend a little time in a couple of professional recording studios.

Aside from musical qualifications, I have also been in a position to teach a variety subjects to a variety of people. From younger children to my elders, I have taught subjects ranging from math and statistics, survey research and data analysis, political science, program evaluation, religious philosophy, basic web authoring and flash animation technique. Click here if you'd like more information.

Here's the long and short of it. Am I a musical prodigy? No. Did I earn a degree in music theory from Juliard? No. Can I teach you to play guitar? Yes I can.

Day Job
I work full-time for a prominent consulting company called Kenexa whose Lincoln office employs roughly a hundred people. I am a research analyst and a statistician which means that I crunch numbers all day and analyze their relationship with other metrics like employee satisfaction, turnover and profit.

You might think it's peculiarly right-brained job for a guitar instructor to have. If you are interested in some fascinating and exciting literature, you can download my professional resume if you like.

I do freelance as a researcher when I have the opportunity. I am familiar with many useful research and statistical techniques including:

  • Correlation and multiple regression;
  • ANOVA, MANOVA and ANCOVA and other hypothesis testing;
  • Survey sampling;
  • Non-parametric or distribution-free methods;
  • Survey and questionnaire design including web-surveys;
  • Structured interviewing, focus groups and content analysis; and
  • more!
If you are interested in conducting a research project of the utmost quality at a price sure to fit your budget, visit for an introduction.

I also freelance as a web developer on occasion. If you like this website,need a website, would like to add some flash animation to your existing website, etc. check out my web design home page.

Our Home
Often times, guitar instructors provide lessons in space they have rented from instrument retailers. The retailers refer customers to the instructors and everybody's happy. Except, that the price of the lesson is more expensive because you have to pay rent.

My wife, Jenny, and I live at 3445 P Street here in Lincoln, right in the center of town. We offer our home as place for practice, but I can come to your home if that's more convenient. Lugging my amplifier all around town will help me keep the pounds off. Not.

This portion of the website will be dedicated to Music Education. I will catalogue several interesting studies that support the hypothesis that the link between music and social goods is a real one.

These materials should convince you beyond a doubt that music education is worth the time and effort from an academic point of view. Nevermind the fun!

Also this will be the the section of the site that contains downloadable or printable material used in the lessons so that instructional materials are just a click away for students. It's my intention to put resources and worksheets on the website as they are produced for especially for individual students.

This is the section of the website where you can download and/or listen to some original recordings created by yours truly. I intend for them to illustrate the breadth of music I like to play. I also want to show you the kinds of things when we record your orignial music.

A technical note: You probably already have one, but you will need a media player installed on your computer to listen to these files. I recommend Winamp or Windows Media Player. Also, the files are in a variety of formats, i.e, .mp3, .wav, .wma, etc. Just right click and Save Target as . . .

If you are unable to download the files for any reason, but would still like a listen before you sign up for guitar lessons, just contact me and I will burn them to CD for you and stick 'em in the mail. I hope you enjoy.

Rock
Here is a little tune I wrote called Windy August. It's kinda rocky with a hip-hop backbeat. Honestly, I recorded Windy August in about 20 minutes. One take, a little effects, simple unchanging drum sequence.

I'm an old school punk, Minor Threat, 7-Seconds, Misfits, skate rock . . .stuff like that. Kruiser is a real sloppy track but still funny to listen to.

I like soft music as much as the next sensitive soul. Slow morning coffee is excerpted from a super long track I once recorded.
